Our Story

With a background in Interior Design and a desire for owning her own business, Hillary started Jane Hill Designs. It started out as a small online Esty shop selling essential oil diffuser jewelry and boss babe and boss mom inspirational signs and gear. Hillary eventually decided to take the leap into selling her handmade items in a couple of brick-and-mortar shops. After a successful few years, Hillary deiced to take Jane Hill Designs to the next level by offering mobile DIY workshops. But, just as the announcement came out, 2020 hit.

Hillary did not give up on her dream and decided that once things started to go back to normal she would open her own place to offer workshops. She never forgot the success she had because of one of the retail shops she was in. When she started looking for a studio space, she decided that she would offer space for other local crafters to sell their creations, along with the workshops. The idea of Boarded Up was born. In June of 2022, with the support of her family, purchased the building that Boarded Up would occupy, and with months of renovations it was finally opened on October 1, 2022.

Boarded Up currently houses over 30 local and unique crafting vendors and holds weekly workshops. Hillary also encourages all of the crafters to teach their own workshops at Boarded Up. This allows Boarded Up to offer an array of workshops and also gives the local crafters the opportunity to propel their small business. The same opportunity that Hillary was given with Jane Hill Designs.
